Wang Yi: China to enhance cooperation with UN in promoting world peace, development and congratulated on successfully conducting Summit of the Future 2024.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed China’s willingness to strengthen cooperation with the United Nations to promote global peace and development during a meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of the 79th UN General Assembly.
Wang congratulated the UN on successfully organizing the Summit of the Future and praised the adoption of the Pact for the Future, which he said reflects the shared aspirations of many nations and upholds multilateralism. He emphasized China’s commitment to translating the Pact’s vision into reality and contributing to a better future for humanity.
Wang stressed that maintaining the UN’s authority and its core role in international affairs is increasingly vital as global challenges grow more complex. He reiterated China’s full support for the UN, including its efforts to reform the international financial framework and coordinate the use of artificial intelligence in global governance.
China’s backing of the UN also extends to resolving crises like the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, enabling the UN to better safeguard global peace and security, Wang added.
Additionally, Guterres expressed gratitude for China’s longstanding support of the UN and its contributions to the Summit of the Future. He urged all parties to act on their commitments and work together against protectionism. Guterres also affirmed the UN’s belief in China’s continued leadership in international affairs and its dedication to peace and development.
