China proposes new regulation on labeling AI-generated content by adhering to national policies when labelling any such content.
The Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) has proposed new regulations to standardize the labeling of AI-generated synthetic content to safeguard national security and public interests. The draft, titled “Measures for Identifying AI-Generated Synthetic Content,” is available for public comment until October 14, 2024.
The draft defines AI-generated synthetic content as any text, image, audio, or video produced using artificial intelligence technologies. According to the draft, internet service providers must follow national standards for labeling this content. Providers that offer functionalities like downloading, copying, or exporting such materials must include clear labels in the files.
Additionally, platforms that distribute content must manage the dissemination of AI-generated materials by providing identification features and reminding users to disclose if their posts include AI-generated content.
