Xi Jinping calls for advancing Chinese socialism on Deng Xiaoping’s 120th birth anniversary as he acknowledged Deng’s contributions in redefining socialism.
Chinese President Xi Jinping praised Deng Xiaoping’s “outstanding contributions” and emphasized the need to advance socialism with Chinese characteristics, which Deng initiated, as the country commemorated Deng’s 120th birth anniversary on Thursday.
During the anniversary meeting, Xi, also the CPC Central Committee’s General Secretary and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, highlighted the importance of studying and applying Deng Xiaoping Theory.
Xi acknowledged Deng’s historical significance, noting his contributions to the Party, the people, the nation, and the world, and emphasized that Deng’s achievements are immortalized in history, continuing to inspire future generations.
Deng was recognized as the core of the second generation of the Party’s leadership, the chief architect of China’s reform and modernization, and a key figure in shaping socialism with Chinese characteristics. Xi also highlighted Deng’s role as an internationalist who contributed to global peace and development.
Xi recounted Deng’s leadership in guiding China through historic transformations after the Cultural Revolution, adapting Marxism to the Chinese context, and setting the path for China’s reunification.
Deng’s Legacy
Deng’s legacy, according to Xi, is profound and far-reaching, both for China and the world. Xi urged that Deng’s achievements be remembered and revered.
Xi stressed the importance of thoroughly studying Deng Xiaoping Theory to address current challenges and advocated for continuing Deng’s legacy by advancing socialism with Chinese characteristics.
He called for deepening reforms, building a modernized economy, achieving self-reliance in science and technology, and promoting an advanced socialist culture. Xi also emphasized the goal of common prosperity for all.
Xi reiterated the aspiration for China’s complete reunification, shared by Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaoping, and other revolutionaries, and stressed the importance of promoting peaceful cross-Strait relations while opposing “Taiwan independence.”
Lastly, Xi affirmed China’s commitment to being a force for world peace and called for efforts to support global development, cooperation, and mutual benefit. He also mentioned China’s active role in global governance reform and its aim to create new opportunities for the world through Chinese modernization.
As Xi Jinping calls for advancing Chinese socialism on Deng Xiaoping’s 120th birth anniversary senior leaders including Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Ding Xuexiang, Li Xi, Han Zheng, and Cai Qi also attended the meeting, with Cai presiding.
