China, ASEAN vow to work for shared future at the ceremony of ASEAN-China Week 2024 in Changzhi, North China’s Shanxi province.

Officials from China and ASEAN countries reaffirmed their dedication to exploring new areas and opportunities for cooperation and innovation to ensure a more prosperous and sustainable future. This commitment was made during the opening ceremony of ASEAN-China Week 2024 in Changzhi, Shanxi province.

At the event, they pledged to strengthen the bond between China and ASEAN, aiming to build a closer community with a shared future.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi, in a congratulatory message, emphasized the limitless potential in the relationship between China and ASEAN, highlighting their position as friendly neighbors and vibrant markets.

Wang, also a member of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, expressed hope that the countries could leverage their complementary strengths, accelerate coordinated development, and foster new quality productive forces to enhance regional stability and prosperity.

The recent third plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee reiterated the importance of high-quality development for China’s modernization, with new quality productive forces being essential to this goal.

The concept of “new quality productive forces” is gaining attention among ASEAN countries, as it aligns with their long-term goals of quality economic growth and cooperation.

Cambodia’s Minister of Information, Neth Pheaktra, highlighted the role of innovation in ensuring resilient and competitive economies, noting the emergence of collaboration in digital economy and green technologies. He also emphasized the importance of the RCEP agreement and the progress of the ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement 3.0 in strengthening economic ties.

Pheaktra praised the Belt and Road Initiative, calling it a key driver of Cambodia’s infrastructure and economic growth over the past decade, and a significant contributor to regional development.

Looking ahead, Pheaktra expressed confidence that innovation-driven ASEAN-China cooperation would benefit all people in the region.

Thet Thet Khine, Myanmar’s Minister for Hotels and Tourism, highlighted innovation as the foundation for sustainable development, particularly in the tourism industry, which is vital to the economies of both ASEAN and China.

She emphasized the importance of innovation in creating resilient and sustainable tourism and enhancing cultural exchanges to build trust between ASEAN and China, especially with 2024 being the ASEAN-China Year of People-to-People Exchanges.

Shi Zhongjun, secretary-general of the ASEAN-China Center, announced the launch of the ASEAN-China Import and Export Service Platform, which has already received thousands of cooperation requests.

Shanxi Governor Jin Xiangjun emphasized that ASEAN-China Week strengthens ties between Shanxi and ASEAN countries and called for deeper cooperation in trade, education, culture, and tourism.
