In a noteworthy development, the New Gwadar International Airport (NGIA) has achieved a significant milestone with the completion of its advanced telecommunication infrastructure as part of its ongoing gradual development.

The telecommunication framework of NGIA boasts state-of-the-art equipment and systems designed to facilitate the seamless transmission of voice, data, and audio-video signals across various devices, including smartphones, computers, and other communication devices.

According to officials speaking to Gwadar Pro, the telecommunication work at NGIA encompasses a variety of components, including transmission systems, switching systems, and network management systems. These components collaborate to ensure the efficient and secure transmission and delivery of communication signals.

Additionally, the next phase of development involves the installation and implementation of a modern navigational system at NGIA. This system integrates radio-electric and visual aids, including signaling devices, guidance signs, and runway lights, to assist aircraft during navigation, takeoff, landing, and taxiing.

The navigational system also includes guidance signs that provide directional information to aircraft and airport vehicles, as well as location signs that identify specific runway or taxiway areas.

Fiber optic cables have already been laid from Gwadar port to NGIA, underscoring the strategic importance of robust connectivity for the airport’s operations. NGIA, a flagship project of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), represents a significant investment, costing Rs. 60.208 billion.

The collaborative efforts of professional teams from China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) and the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of Pakistan have led to the completion of fencing around NGIA, enhancing security measures.

Spread across 4,300 acres, NGIA is poised to serve both national and international passengers. Last year in July, the inauguration of the airbase infrastructure marked a significant milestone in the development of NGIA. Collaboratively undertaken by China Airport Construction Group Co Ltd and CAA Pakistan, NGIA comprises 32 components including state-of-the-art runways, aprons, terminals, and various infrastructure facilities.

In its second phase of development, NGIA will include a cargo complex to accommodate multiple cargo operations. With the capacity to handle a diverse range of aircraft, including narrow-body and wide-body planes, NGIA is set to become a key hub for domestic and international air travel, bolstering connectivity and economic growth in the region.
