In an effort to enhance and advance Pakistan’s mineral sector, the China Metallurgical Group Corporation (MCC) has put forward a proposal to establish an Export Processing Zone (EPZ) for metal mining and to develop a mineral-based industrial park within Pakistan.
This proposal was presented during a high-level meeting between MCC and Chairman Senate, Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani, in Beijing on Monday.
The initiative is anticipated to create numerous employment opportunities and contribute significantly to Pakistan’s foreign exchange earnings.
As per the official notification from the Senate of Pakistan, the meeting primarily focused on strengthening cooperation and collaboration within the mineral sector, resulting in various significant developments and a commitment to ongoing partnership.
Representatives from both sides engaged in discussions concerning matters of mutual interest while acknowledging the crucial role of mineral resources in Pakistan’s economic growth. Chairman Senate, demonstrating steadfast support, assured MCC of his full backing in promoting the mineral sector within the country.
During the meeting, a groundbreaking project in Chagai was proposed, operating under the framework of an Export Processing Zone (EPZ). Chairman Senate expressed his optimism that this project would become a landmark endeavor, akin to the success of the Reko Diq project, and have a substantial impact on Pakistan’s economic development.
Highlighting the significance of this project, Chairman Senate pledged to invite key officials, SIFC representatives, and the MCC Chief to the grand launch event in Chagai.
The MCC delegation reiterated its commitment to Pakistan, indicating a readiness to make further investments in the mineral sector, with a particular focus on Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
