SOST, June 4 – Pakistan has successfully sent its first transit consignment to Kazakhstan via the historic Silk Route on Friday.
The first-ever transit consignment embarked on its journey from SRDP, Sost in Pakistan, and will traverse through China to reach its final destination in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
The move marked a landmark development of the Quadrilateral Traffic in Transit Agreement (QTTA) signed among Pakistan, China, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan to activate the land corridor among the four countries.
Ramiz Ali Rabbani, owner of Best Trans (Pvt) Ltd., who moved the consignment, said that the vehicle will reach Almaty in five days. He said that the consignment was loaded with clothes from Faisalabad, and more containers will be moved after the success of the pilot project.
Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Pakistan, ministers of Gilgit-Baltistan, Customs Collector and Deputy Commissioner Hunza were present on the occasion, according to an official of Pakistan Customs.
The event marks a new chapter in regional connectivity and will also provide Pakistan with another avenue for trade with the Central Asian States, the Customs official said.
