The 2025 SCO National Film Festival will be hosted in Yongchuan, Chongqing, from June 23 to 27, aiming to deepen cultural exchange among SCO member states, with Pakistani cinema anticipated to have a notable presence.
At a press conference in Beijing, organizers revealed that this marks the festival’s return to China after seven years, coinciding with the 130th anniversary of global cinema and the 120th anniversary of Chinese cinema.
Mao Yu, Executive Deputy Director of China’s film administration, presented three initiatives: broadening China’s film market to include top international films, launching a youth film talent exchange program within SCO, and forming a film producers association alliance among SCO countries.
Guan Hong from Chongqing’s Publicity Department extended a warm invitation to global filmmakers and investors, highlighting Chongqing’s pivotal role in China’s growth and its strong ties with SCO. He also unveiled plans for diverse festival activities, including film showings, exhibitions, music events, and cultural markets.
The festival will offer 12 awards, such as Best Film, Director, and Actress, with Ren Zhonglun, a respected Chinese screenwriter and producer, heading the jury composed of experts from SCO member and observer nations.
Amjaz Zarin, a Pakistani attendee, noted that while specific Pakistani film entries have yet to be confirmed, Pakistan’s consistent involvement in SCO cultural affairs points to a significant presence. He cited past Chinese popularity of films like The Legend of Maula Jatt and Mera Naam Hai Mohabbat as examples of Pakistan’s storytelling appeal.
The festival’s logo and trophy incorporate the camellia, the official flower of Chongqing, symbolizing life, cultural vitality, and unity among filmmakers of SCO member countries
