China opposes external interference in Myanmar as stated by the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized on Wednesday that China strongly opposes external interference in Myanmar and will continue to support Myanmar’s efforts for domestic political reconciliation within its constitutional framework.

Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made these statements during a meeting with Than Shwe, the former chairman of Myanmar’s State Peace and Development Council.

During the meeting, Wang reiterated China’s opposition to external interference and activities that undermine Myanmar’s stability and development. He affirmed China’s ongoing support for Myanmar in safeguarding its independence, sovereignty, national unity, and territorial integrity, and stressed China’s commitment to assisting Myanmar in achieving political reconciliation, holding national elections, and restarting the democratic transition process under the constitution.

Than Shwe expressed gratitude to China for its long-standing, selfless assistance in various areas. He described China as Myanmar’s “paukphaw” (fraternal friend) and a friendly neighbor, noting that the enduring peaceful coexistence between the two nations would remain unchanged. He also expressed hope that China would continue to support Myanmar in resisting external interference and maintaining domestic stability.

Wang highlighted that the “paukphaw” friendship between China and Myanmar has endured various international challenges and has grown stronger over time. He emphasized that China places great importance on its relationship with Myanmar in its broader neighborhood diplomacy.

Wang affirmed China’s willingness to collaborate with Myanmar to achieve more substantial progress in building a China-Myanmar community with a shared future.

Wang visited Myanmar on Wednesday before heading to Thailand to co-chair the ninth Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and participate in an informal discussion with the foreign ministers of China, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand.

Additionally, Wang met with Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Chairman of Myanmar’s State Administration Council (SAC), and Myanmar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs, U Than Swe, on the same day.
