BRI aligns with Africa’s development, the remarks being made during a meeting on Belt and Cooperation during the 2024 FOCAC Summit.

China-Africa cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) closely aligns with the development priorities of African nations, benefiting both Chinese and African people, according to senior officials from both regions.

These remarks were made during a high-level meeting on Belt and Road cooperation, held on the sidelines of the 2024 FOCAC Summit in Beijing on Thursday.

Chinese Vice-Premier Ding Xuexiang praised the significant achievements of China-Africa collaboration within the BRI framework. Ding, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, highlighted that the BRI has become the largest and most influential international economic cooperation platform.

Ding emphasized that China and Africa should lead by example in advancing high-quality BRI cooperation by building a comprehensive connectivity network, improving economic collaboration, and enhancing cultural and people-to-people exchanges to benefit their citizens.

Gambian President Adama Barrow stated that the BRI has improved connectivity and spurred industrial growth across Africa. He cited China’s role in developing Gambia’s power and transportation infrastructure as a significant boost to its economy and citizens’ well-being. Barrow also noted the alignment between the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the China-Africa Cooperation Vision 2035.

Barrow added that China-Africa partnerships in agriculture, trade, and investment are key to attracting much-needed investment to the African continent.

Malawian President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera remarked that the BRI aligns with Africa’s Program for Infrastructure Development, which focuses on developing safe, efficient, and reliable transportation systems to ensure the smooth flow of goods.

Gabon’s interim president, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, praised the BRI as an inclusive development model, particularly beneficial for Africa, and expressed Gabon’s interest in deepening participation in China-Africa BRI cooperation.
