Zardari, Erdogan discuss cooperation across sectors during a meeting held in Islamabad.
Pakistan and Turkiye have reaffirmed their dedication to strengthening bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors, including trade, economy, energy, defense, tourism, and cultural exchanges.
This commitment was highlighted during a meeting between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari in Islamabad. Both leaders emphasized the significant potential for enhancing economic ties and stressed the importance of boosting trade and investment relations.
Welcoming President Erdogan and his delegation, President Zardari noted the deep-rooted historical and fraternal ties between Pakistan and Turkiye, acknowledging their mutual support on international platforms. He emphasized that President Erdogan’s visit held great significance for the people of Pakistan and would further reinforce the strong bilateral relationship.
President Zardari highlighted Pakistan’s investor-friendly environment and reiterated the country’s interest in attracting more Turkish investments, particularly in the stock market and key economic sectors. He also called for greater cooperation in the banking sector to facilitate business operations and maximize trade potential. Additionally, he stressed the need to enhance air connectivity between Pakistan and Turkiye to promote tourism and strengthen cultural and social exchanges.
During their discussion, the two leaders addressed regional and global issues, with a focus on Gaza and Syria. They agreed to work collaboratively to promote peace and stability both in the region and globally.
President Zardari expressed gratitude to President Erdogan for Turkiye’s steadfast support for Kashmiris’ right to self-determination. In response, President Erdogan reaffirmed Turkiye’s commitment to strengthening economic ties with Pakistan and pledged to encourage Turkish companies to increase their investments to achieve a bilateral trade target of $5 billion.
The Turkish President also emphasized the importance of enhancing people-to-people connections to pass on the enduring friendship between the two nations to future generations. He praised Pakistan’s progress and stability while expressing appreciation for Pakistan’s continued support for Turkiye on the Cyprus issue. Erdogan further reiterated that the Jammu and Kashmir dispute should be resolved through dialogue in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.
Following the discussions, President Zardari hosted a banquet in honor of President Erdogan, First Lady Emine Erdogan, and the Turkish delegation.
