Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong highlights China’s commitment to expand CPEC, its scope and impact for regional prosperity at the International Conference on the China-Pakistan Economic.
He expressed these views while addressing the International Conference on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), themed “CPEC: Enhancing Community with a Shared Future for Mankind,” held in Islamabad.
He underscored China’s adherence to the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and its vision of a shared future for humanity, detailing CPEC’s substantial economic benefits for Pakistan, including $25.4 billion in investments and the creation of 236,000 jobs. The conference, jointly organized by Chinese and Pakistani institutions, highlighted the importance of continued cooperation and development under the CPEC framework to promote socio-economic progress and enhance regional connectivity.
The conference was jointly organized by the Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, Communication University Beijing, and the Pakistan Research Center for a Community with Shared Future.
Secretary Planning Awais Manzur Sumra reviewed the accomplishments of CPEC Phase I and outlined the ambitious plans for Phase II, proposing five new corridors aimed at fostering growth, enhancing livelihoods, promoting innovation, advancing green development, and strengthening regional connectivity. He emphasized the significance of agricultural modernization, science and technology collaboration, and job creation in advancing Pakistan’s socio-economic progress. Mr. Sumra also highlighted ongoing initiatives such as the development of Gwadar Port and Free Trade Zone, crucial for regional trade facilitation and economic integration.
The conference encompassed three pivotal sessions: “Strategic Significance and Infrastructure Development of CPEC,” delving into Phase I’s historical context, strategic objectives, and achievements; “Cooperation Under the Framework of CPEC,” focusing on industrial relocation, transport infrastructure projects, and environmental considerations; and “Socio-Economic Development and Regional Connectivity Under CPEC Phase II,” examining new corridor proposals, agricultural collaboration, regional integration and cultural exchange.
The conference drew numerous scholars and researchers from diverse fields who participated in discussions on CPEC’s transformative impact, focusing on technological advancements, infrastructure development, and economic growth prospects.
The International Conference on CPEC highlighted the project’s crucial role in fostering regional development and global cooperation. Participants reiterated their dedication to advancing a community with a shared future for mankind and expressed confidence in the ongoing success and growth of CPEC.
