Yangling Deepens Agricultural Trade Cooperation with SCO Nations through New Export Route to boost agricultural exports.
Yangling Agricultural Hi-tech Industries Demonstration Zone in Shaanxi province has taken a significant step toward strengthening trade ties with Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) nations. This week, a special train carrying agricultural products departed from Xi’an, bound for Russia through the Khorgos Port in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. With 55 containers weighing 1,210 metric tons and valued at $2.09 million, the shipment highlights China’s proactive role in boosting agricultural exports and fostering economic cooperation within the SCO framework.
The launch of this train route signifies a promising future for regular agricultural trade between Yangling and Russia. According to Wang Bin, deputy general manager of Yangling Modern Agriculture International Cooperation Co., this development represents another milestone in deepening China’s economic engagement with SCO nations. As high-quality agricultural products from Yangling enter global markets, they address the growing demand for premium food supplies while enhancing China’s agricultural export portfolio.
This initiative not only supports Chinese exports but also opens the Chinese market to premium agricultural goods from SCO countries. By fostering a two-way trade flow, Yangling is creating a diversified agricultural trade ecosystem, benefiting all member states. Over the years, Yangling has successfully facilitated shipments of goods to Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and Khorgos through the China-Europe and China-Central Asia Railway Express services. These efforts have generated a cumulative trade volume of 120 million yuan ($16.5 million), covering a wide range of products from agricultural equipment to pre-packaged foods.
The Yangling demonstration zone has gone beyond trade logistics by establishing over 10 overseas agricultural technology parks in SCO countries like Kazakhstan. These parks serve as testing grounds for 115 superior crop varieties and advanced cultivation techniques, showcasing China’s commitment to agricultural innovation and technology transfer. As a result, the zone’s total trade volume exceeded 1 billion yuan last year, with an average annual growth rate of more than 20 percent over the past five years, reflecting the success of its international agricultural collaboration efforts.
Looking ahead, Yangling plans to expand its global agricultural footprint through enhanced institutional and management reforms. Shi Gaoling, secretary of the Party Working Committee of the demonstration zone, emphasized leveraging its free trade and comprehensive bonded zones for greater agricultural cooperation. The zone aims to develop a national agricultural-industrial cooperation hub, standardize agricultural practices, and establish a green channel for the seamless international trade of agricultural products. This forward-looking strategy by Yangling deepens Agricultural Trade Cooperation ensures Yangling remains a vital player in advancing agricultural trade under the Belt and Road Initiative and the SCO partnership.
