Xinjiang leads renewable energy growth in 2024 marking a significant more than 30% increase compared to last year.
In 2024, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwest China generated 116.16 billion kWh of new energy power, marking a 30.7% increase compared to the previous year.
This surge in new energy power contributed to over 80% of the total increase in power generation, with both the scale and share of new energy consistently growing, as reported by the State Grid Xinjiang Electric Power Co., Ltd.
Photovoltaic power generation experienced a significant rise of 65.7% year-on-year, reaching 40.77 billion kWh, while wind power generation climbed 17.3% to 75.39 billion kWh over the same period.
Aligned with China’s dual objectives of reaching peak carbon emissions by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2060, Xinjiang has intensified efforts in developing its renewable energy sector.
Rich in solar and wind resources, Xinjiang has accelerated the development of its new energy industry by advancing the construction of large-scale wind and photovoltaic power projects.
