Xinjiang launches air cargo route to Istanbul that will offer a wider range of business services and enhance economic cooperation.
The Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwest China has launched a new air-cargo route to Istanbul, Türkiye, local authorities announced on Thursday.
The inaugural flight, which carried 55 tonnes of cargo, departed from Urumqi Diwopu International Airport on Thursday, heading for Istanbul.
According to customs at the airport, four flights will operate weekly, with each flight taking approximately seven hours.
This new cargo route will offer a wider range of business services to enhance economic and trade cooperation between China and Türkiye, while also providing vital logistics support for foreign trade enterprises seeking to enter the Asian and European markets, stated Hua Chen from a logistics company in Xinjiang.
As part of the Belt and Road Initiative, Urumqi Diwopu International Airport has launched 16 international cargo routes, creating an air logistics network that spans Central Asia, West Asia, and Europe. The main imports include clothing, food, and large equipment, while exports consist primarily of daily necessities, mechanical and electrical products, and high-tech items.
