Xi, urges China, South Korea to enhance strategic ties during a telephonic conversation with the South Korean counterpart.
Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the need to elevate China–South Korea strategic ties to a higher level to benefit both nations and contribute stability to an increasingly volatile regional and global environment.
Xi made these comments during a phone call with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung.
Xi congratulated Lee on his election win and noted that China and South Korea are inseparable neighbors with a strong geographical bond.
Reflecting on 33 years of diplomatic relations, Xi said both nations have moved beyond ideological and systemic differences to build productive cooperation across various sectors, supporting each other’s growth and shared development.
He said a robust and growing China–South Korea relationship aligns with current global dynamics, serves their national interests, and supports peace and prosperity at both regional and international levels.
Xi urged both countries to uphold the spirit that guided the start of diplomatic ties, maintain friendly neighborly relations, and pursue mutual benefit and win-win outcomes.
Furthermore, he called for increased engagement at multiple levels and across sectors to strengthen strategic trust, deepen bilateral cooperation, and work together in global and regional platforms to uphold multilateralism, free trade, and secure supply chains.
Xi also emphasized the importance of expanding cultural and people-to-people exchanges to build public goodwill and instill lasting friendship between the two nations.
He stressed the need for mutual respect regarding each other’s core interests and major concerns to keep bilateral ties on a healthy and stable trajectory.
In response, President Lee agreed with Xi’s remarks and highlighted the close geographical, historical, and economic ties between South Korea and China.
Lee praised China’s development under Xi’s leadership and affirmed his commitment to enhancing bilateral relations, strengthening people-to-people bonds, and achieving greater success in mutual cooperation.
