Xi to address upcoming China-CELAC Forum as it is set to be held in Beijing on May 13, 2025.
Chinese President Xi Jinping is set to attend and deliver a speech at the opening ceremony of the fourth ministerial meeting of the China-CELAC Forum, which will be held in Beijing on May 13, according to a statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
The spokesperson confirmed that, as per mutual agreement, China and CELAC will hold the meeting in Beijing on May 13, with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi presiding over the session.
Foreign ministers or their representatives from CELAC member nations, along with leaders from key regional organizations, are expected to take part in the meeting, the spokesperson added.
At a media briefing on Sunday, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Miao Deyu said President Xi’s keynote speech will review the evolution of China-Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) relations, highlight the essence and progress of the shared future community, and propose fresh initiatives to deepen bilateral ties, offering direction for sustainable and long-term cooperation.
According to Miao, the forum will likely produce a series of joint documents outlining collaboration in fields such as tech innovation, trade, AI, finance, infrastructure, agriculture, energy, industry, and the Belt and Road Initiative, demonstrating a mutual commitment to peace, growth, and partnership.
Miao noted that the year marks the 10th anniversary of the China-CELAC Forum’s establishment, and this ministerial meeting represents a pivotal moment for reviewing past efforts, planning future cooperation, and reinforcing shared aspirations.
He emphasized the forum’s strategic importance for advancing China-LAC relations and said it will clearly signal the unified approach of China and CELAC nations in tackling global challenges together.
Miao highlighted President Xi’s six visits to Latin American and Caribbean countries and his active engagement with regional leaders, which have laid the groundwork for a new era of cooperation marked by equality, mutual gain, innovation, and openness.
He stressed that both China and CELAC members support globalization and multilateral trade, reject unilateralism and economic coercion, and oppose the politicization and militarization of trade relations.
Miao concluded by saying that China is ready to use the meeting as a platform to enhance development partnerships with CELAC nations, jointly tackle global issues, promote reforms in global governance, and uphold international peace and stability.
