Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of dialogue and win-win cooperation over confrontation and zero-sum games in his congratulatory letter to the 2024 gala dinner of the U.S.-China Business Council (USCBC) on Wednesday.
In his message, Xi congratulated the council and its members and extended warm greetings to those in the United States who have supported and cared about the bilateral business relationship.
Highlighting the global significance of the China-U.S. relationship, Xi noted that it impacts not only the immediate interests of both nations but also the broader destiny of humanity. He reiterated that both countries benefit from collaboration and suffer from discord, expressing China’s willingness to engage in communication to expand cooperation, manage differences, and establish a long-term, peaceful coexistence that benefits both nations and the world.
Xi underlined the pivotal role of economic and trade ties in bilateral relations, pointing out the deeply intertwined interests of the two nations and the vast potential for collaboration. He urged both sides to resolve differences through equal dialogue and expand their cooperative efforts by leveraging complementary strengths. Xi added that one nation’s success should serve as an opportunity, not a challenge, for the other.
Openness, according to Xi, is fundamental to human progress and prosperity. He emphasized that China’s commitment to reform and opening up has been a mutual process of advancement with the global community. Recent reforms adopted by the Communist Party of China aim to deepen this commitment and advance Chinese modernization.
Xi assured that China remains dedicated to fostering a market-oriented, law-based, and world-class business environment, including for U.S. companies, while continuing to liberalize trade and investment policies. He also stated that the achievements of Chinese modernization would create new global opportunities.
Finally, Xi expressed hope that the USCBC and other stakeholders would continue supporting China-U.S. relations, participate actively in Chinese modernization, and contribute to a new chapter of openness, cooperation, and mutual benefit for sustained and stable bilateral ties.
On the same occasion, U.S. President Joe Biden also conveyed a congratulatory letter to the USCBC’s 2024 gala dinner.
