Chinese President Xi states there is no winner in a tariff war as the global tensions continue to increase.
During his meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez in Beijing, Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized that no one benefits from a tariff war and that defying the global consensus leads only to isolation.
Xi highlighted China’s development journey over the past seven decades, attributing its progress to self-reliance and perseverance, rather than dependence on external aid or fear of unjust pressure.
He reaffirmed that regardless of international circumstances, China remains steadfast in its commitment to managing its internal affairs efficiently.
Stressing the significance of China-EU relations, Xi noted that both are key global economies that support free trade and economic globalization, with a combined output constituting over one-third of global GDP.
Xi urged both sides to shoulder their global responsibilities by jointly defending economic globalization, preserving the international trading system, and opposing unilateralism.
He further stated that such collaboration not only protects the interests of China and the EU but also upholds international fairness, justice, and adherence to global norms.
Prime Minister Sanchez acknowledged China as a crucial EU partner and reiterated Spain’s consistent support for stable EU-China relations.
Sanchez reaffirmed the EU’s dedication to open markets and multilateralism while rejecting unilateral tariff measures, agreeing that trade wars yield no winners.
Given the current complex global landscape, Sanchez expressed the EU’s willingness to work closely with China on maintaining the global trade framework, addressing climate change and poverty, and safeguarding the collective interests of the international community.
