Chinese President Xi Jinping stated on Wednesday that China is eager to be a genuine friend and a close partner for collaborative development with Egypt. He made this remark during his meeting with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi at the 16th BRICS Summit, where he also congratulated Egypt on its first-time participation as a full member.
Xi highlighted that this year marks both the China-Egypt Year of Partnership and the 10th anniversary of their comprehensive strategic partnership. He emphasized China’s firm support for Egypt in maintaining its national sovereignty, security, and development interests.
The two nations should continue to support each other, strengthen political trust, deepen practical cooperation, and work together to develop the Belt and Road Initiative with high quality. Xi expressed the desire to enhance people-to-people and cultural exchanges, aiming to establish a China-Egypt community with a shared future in the new era.
Additionally, China is ready to enhance coordination with Egypt to ensure the steady development of BRICS cooperation, amplify the influence of the Global South, and protect the shared interests of developing countries.
Sisi congratulated China on the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and noted that since the establishment of their comprehensive strategic partnership a decade ago, the two countries have achieved significant cooperation in various fields. He reiterated that China is Egypt’s most sincere friend and expressed gratitude for the assistance provided by China.
Egypt adheres to the one-China principle and acknowledges the importance of the Taiwan issue to China. Sisi expressed Egypt’s willingness to align its development strategies with the Belt and Road Initiative, further enhancing practical cooperation.
He also thanked China for supporting Egypt’s full membership in the BRICS cooperation mechanism and expressed a desire to enhance multilateral coordination with China to protect the common interests of developing countries and contribute to a more just global governance system.
The leaders discussed the current situation in the Middle East, with Xi expressing deep concern over the ongoing turmoil. He stated that wars and chaos in the region are detrimental to everyone and identified the Palestinian issue as central to the Middle East conflict. Xi urged the full implementation of relevant UN Security Council resolutions to end the fighting in Gaza promptly.
He asserted that only through the implementation of a two-state solution can a comprehensive and lasting resolution to the Palestinian issue be achieved.
