Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, visited a Dong ethnic village in Guizhou Province on Monday afternoon, commending the group’s unique culture as both “deeply traditional and remarkably stylish.”
During his visit to Zhaoxing Dong Village in Liping County, Xi watched a performance of the grand song of the Dong ethnic group, a folk chorus recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
He also explored the village’s distinct architectural features, toured the Dong culture exhibition center, and inspected a local industry base specializing in weaving, dyeing, and embroidery.
Highlighting the rich cultural heritage of the Dong people, including their stilt houses, ancient villages, traditional musical instruments, folk songs, and batik craftsmanship, Xi emphasized their significance in preserving ethnic identity while maintaining contemporary appeal.
Xi expressed his hope that with continued support from the Party and government, the villagers would achieve better livelihoods, advance rural revitalization, and contribute to China’s modernization efforts.
