Chinese President Xi Jinping meets Thai PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra in Beijing on Thursday.
Xi highlighted that 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Thailand, also known as the “Golden Jubilee of China-Thailand Friendship.” He emphasized the need for both nations to build upon past successes and collaborate in strengthening their shared future, benefiting their people, the region, and the world.
Amid global uncertainties, Xi stressed that China and Thailand should reinforce strategic trust, support each other, and provide stability in response to external challenges. He reaffirmed China’s commitment to aligning development strategies with Thailand, expanding mutually beneficial cooperation, and advancing major initiatives like the China-Thailand Railway to enhance regional connectivity with Laos.
Xi urged deeper collaboration in emerging sectors, including the digital economy and new energy vehicles, while ensuring robust and stable industrial and supply chains. He also commended Thailand’s efforts in combating online gambling and telecom fraud, advocating for stronger security, law enforcement, and judicial cooperation to protect citizens and facilitate regional exchanges.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations, Xi called for cultural and people-to-people initiatives to foster mutual understanding. Additionally, he reaffirmed China’s support for Thailand’s role in the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation and welcomed its inclusion as a BRICS partner nation.
Xi underscored China’s willingness to collaborate with Thailand in upholding the international system centered on the United Nations, strengthening unity among Global South nations, and promoting global peace and shared development.
Prime Minister Paetongtarn expressed her delight in visiting China during the golden jubilee celebrations, emphasizing the strong and cooperative ties between the two nations over the past 50 years. She reiterated Thailand’s commitment to the one-China policy and its eagerness to enhance cooperation in connectivity, trade, economy, and agriculture while deepening people-to-people exchanges for continued peace and prosperity.
She also affirmed Thailand’s dedication to reinforcing law enforcement collaboration with China and neighboring countries, pledging firm measures against cross-border crimes, including online gambling and telecom fraud.
Recognizing China as a responsible global power that champions the interests of developing nations, Paetongtarn expressed Thailand’s willingness to enhance coordination with China in tackling global challenges.
