Xi meets Norwegian prime minister expressing willingness to cooperate and foster friendly ties.
During a meeting with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store on Monday, Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed China’s readiness to collaborate with Norway to advance friendly cooperation. Xi also conveyed his greetings to King Harald V through Store and acknowledged the 70-year diplomatic relationship between the two nations, built on mutual respect and learning.
Xi emphasized that deepening China-Norway cooperation aligns with the aspirations of both peoples, serves their national interests, and reflects the global trend of increasing international cooperation. He noted that the world is undergoing significant changes that test the international community’s ability to make the right decisions.
China remains committed to peaceful development, Xi said, and is focused on advancing reforms and Chinese modernization. He believes this will provide stability to the world and offer new opportunities for collective progress. He also noted that China and Norway’s economies complement each other and have yielded successful cooperation in multiple areas.
Xi called for expanding practical cooperation between China and Norway, particularly in fields like environmental protection, energy transformation, maritime affairs, and electric vehicles. He also stressed the importance of increased exchanges in education, culture, tourism, and winter sports.
Xi acknowledged the common ground China and Norway share on key global issues such as peace, climate change, and biodiversity. He expressed China’s willingness to enhance coordination with Norway on multilateral platforms like the UN, promote multilateralism, and support economic globalization that benefits everyone.
Store conveyed King Harald V’s warm greetings to Xi, reaffirmed Norway’s respect for China’s sovereignty, and its adherence to the one-China policy. He stated that Norway seeks to enhance cooperation with China, especially in areas like green development, maritime affairs, and AI.
Store highlighted Norway’s commitment to free trade and its desire to strengthen communication with China through multilateral organizations like the G20. He also expressed support for enhanced Europe-China relations and cooperation.
Both leaders discussed the Ukraine crisis. Xi reiterated China’s support for all efforts that contribute to the peaceful resolution of the conflict. He stressed China’s ongoing role in promoting peace talks and urged all parties to collaborate toward a political solution through dialogue.
