Xi meets Grenadian PM to boost bilateral ties and explore more areas for cooperation.
Chinese President Xi Jinping stated on Monday that China is committed to assisting Grenada in its economic and social development under the framework of South-South cooperation.
During a meeting in Beijing with Grenada’s Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell, Xi emphasized exploring new areas of collaboration, including new energy, green and low-carbon initiatives, and the digital economy.
Prime Minister Mitchell expressed heartfelt condolences to China over the recent earthquake in Dingri County, located in Tibet Autonomous Region.
Xi thanked Mitchell for his condolences and highlighted that the earthquake occurred in a high-altitude region. He mentioned that China had promptly completed rescue operations and temporary resettlement and would swiftly move toward reconstruction.
Xi expressed confidence in the Chinese government’s ability to effectively handle earthquake relief efforts.
Xi noted the steady growth in China-Grenada relations, built on mutual respect and equality. He praised the achievements in political trust, practical cooperation, and stronger ties between the peoples of both nations.
China is ready to work with Grenada to align development strategies and achieve tangible outcomes in bilateral cooperation that benefit both countries, Xi added.
He reaffirmed China’s support for Grenada in pursuing an independent development path, strengthening governance exchanges, and enhancing climate resilience and disaster mitigation capabilities.
Xi also pledged to advocate globally for the concerns and needs of small island nations like Grenada, particularly regarding climate change.
Highlighting a commitment to an equitable multi-polar world and inclusive globalization, Xi said China would collaborate with Grenada to implement the Global Development, Security, and Civilization Initiatives, contributing to a shared future for humanity.
Xi reiterated China’s strong ties with Caribbean nations and its willingness to continue supporting the economic and social progress of the region within its capacity.
Mitchell thanked China for its timely support following a devastating hurricane that struck Grenada in July last year.
Over two decades, Grenada-China relations have deepened, with Grenada adhering firmly to the one-China principle and supporting China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, Mitchell said.
Acknowledging Grenada’s gains from its relationship with China, Mitchell pledged to strengthen bilateral cooperation and learn from China’s governance practices.
Mitchell highlighted China’s leadership in the Global South and expressed Grenada’s commitment to working with China to advance global initiatives and uphold global peace and stability.
