Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed his anticipation of engaging in a deep exchange of views with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, focusing on strengthening China-Brazil relations, aligning the countries’ development strategies, and discussing international and regional issues of mutual interest.
Xi made these remarks in a written statement upon his arrival in Brazil for the 19th G20 Leaders’ Summit and a state visit, invited by President Lula. He also extended warm greetings and well wishes to the Brazilian government and people.
Reflecting on his four visits to Brazil, Xi mentioned how he has witnessed the country’s growth and transformation over the past 30 years. He expressed a sense of closeness to Brazil, having arrived again in the nation.
Xi described China and Brazil as like-minded friends with shared aspirations, emphasizing the strong partnership between the two nations. Despite being separated by vast oceans, the two countries are naturally drawn to one another and share common ground.
Xi highlighted that in recent years, the countries have deepened their political trust, achieved significant cooperation, and fostered thriving people-to-people and cultural exchanges. This has infused their traditional friendship with new vitality.
China and Brazil have also jointly advocated for the Global South, contributing to global peace and development, according to Xi.
With the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Brazil this year, Xi noted that their relationship is at a pivotal point, where they can build on past achievements and continue progressing together.
Xi expressed his belief that his visit would strengthen strategic trust, enhance cooperation in various fields, and mark the beginning of a new “golden 50 years” for the bilateral relationship.
Looking ahead to the G20 Summit, Xi further stated his readiness to collaborate with other countries to explore plans for development, promote a fair and balanced multipolar world, and foster inclusive economic globalization. He also aimed to further elevate the G20 as a key platform for international economic cooperation.
Moreover, Xi’s visit to Brazil followed his attendance at the 31st APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Lima and a state visit to Peru.
