President Xi extends festive greetings to teachers at the occasion of 40th teacher’s day.
Chinese President Xi Jinping extended his greetings to teachers and education professionals nationwide in honor of the 40th Teachers’ Day in China, celebrated on Tuesday.
Xi, who is also the general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, conveyed his message on behalf of the CPC Central Committee at a national education meeting.
During the event, held from Monday to Tuesday in Beijing, Xi emphasized the need to enhance teacher compensation, increase allowances for primary and middle school teachers based on their years of service, and ensure the implementation of cost-of-living subsidies for rural teachers. He also called for advancing reforms in college teacher salary structures.
Xi highlighted the long-standing Chinese tradition of valuing education and respecting teachers, urging efforts to protect teachers’ professional dignity and rights, and reduce the burden of non-teaching tasks.
He underscored the importance of raising the social standing of teachers, aiming to make teaching one of the most esteemed professions.
