President Xi Jinping extends condolences over death of former Uruguayan President Yamandu Orsi on Friday, mourning the passing of former Uruguayan President Jose Mujica.
In his message, Xi conveyed heartfelt condolences on behalf of the Chinese government and people, and extended sympathy to Mujica’s family and the people of Uruguay.
Xi praised Mujica as a prominent Uruguayan leader who dedicated his life to the welfare of his people, earned their deep affection, and held a respected position in the global community.
He noted that Mujica had always supported the advancement of China-Uruguay ties and played an active role in strengthening bilateral friendship, adding that the Chinese people have lost a longstanding and cherished friend.
President Xi emphasized the importance he places on China-Uruguay relations and expressed his willingness to work with President Orsi to further deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
