Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday expressed his confidence in Sam Hou Fai, who was sworn in as the sixth-term chief executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR).
During their meeting, Xi expressed confidence in Sam’s ability to lead Macao’s government and its people in fully and accurately implementing the “one country, two systems” principle, ensuring that the people of Macao govern with a high degree of autonomy.
Xi affirmed his belief that Macao will steadfastly safeguard national sovereignty, security, and development interests, while actively promoting economic diversification and improving public welfare.
He also emphasized Macao’s unique position and advantages, urging the region to integrate more deeply into national development and enhance international exchanges and cooperation.
Xi reiterated the central government’s full support for the chief executive and the Macao SAR government in fulfilling their responsibilities.
In response, Sam expressed gratitude to Xi and the central government for their trust and pledged to lead the new SAR government in advancing the successful implementation of “one country, two systems” in Macao.
The meeting was also attended by Cai Qi and other senior officials.
