Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, stressed the need to transform China into a cultural powerhouse by 2035 during a group study session of the CPC Political Bureau on Monday.
He highlighted the importance of continuously developing a socialist culture with Chinese characteristics suitable for a new era.
Xi underscored the necessity of upholding Marxism as the fundamental guiding principle, ensuring it is deeply rooted in the rich Chinese civilization while adapting to advancements in information technology.
He emphasized the role of socialist culture in guiding theories, uniting and inspiring the populace, and exerting a global influence.
“Since the 18th CPC National Congress, we have prioritized cultural advancement in governance,” Xi noted, mentioning that significant arrangements have been made, leading to the development of a new framework for socialist culture with Chinese characteristics.
He recognized the substantial progress made in establishing China as a cultural powerhouse.
Cultural Creativity and Progress
Xi stressed the importance of maintaining the Party’s leadership, enhancing governance capabilities in the cultural sector amidst digital advancements, and adhering to core socialist values.
He also called for inspiring national cultural creativity and fostering democracy in academic research and artistic endeavors, encouraging support for writers, artists, and scholars to draw inspiration from daily life.
Xi further urged efforts to address the diverse intellectual and cultural needs of the public at various levels and to enhance the capacity to supply cultural services and products.
He also highlighted the necessity of creatively transforming and developing China’s cultural heritage.
To improve China’s cultural soft power and enhance the appeal of Chinese culture, Xi called for increased international people-to-people exchanges and cooperation, as well as learning from the achievements of other civilizations.
