Xi, Chinh vow deeper China, Vietnam strategic partnership during their meeting in Hanoi.
Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday emphasized the need for China and Vietnam to stand together against hegemonism, unilateral actions, and protectionist policies.
During a meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Xi acknowledged Vietnam’s achievements in maintaining political and social stability and advancing reforms under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, which has elevated the country’s global standing, a development China views positively.
Xi highlighted that both nations share a common goal of national rejuvenation and development, urging stronger cooperation to support their respective modernization agendas and improve citizens’ well-being.
He proposed deepening strategic alignment and strengthening political foundations to further build a China-Vietnam community with a shared future.
Xi encouraged regular high-level exchanges and closer strategic dialogue to reinforce their shared stance against hegemonism, unilateralism, and protectionism.
He also suggested implementing the Global Development, Security, and Civilization Initiatives to uphold international justice and promote peace and progress across Asia and beyond.
Xi called for both sides to drive high-quality development, ensuring a firm strategic base for their shared journey toward modernization.
He recommended capitalizing on their geographical connectivity to align development strategies and unlock industrial cooperation potential.
Xi urged advancing joint infrastructure projects, improving regional connectivity, and streamlining trade channels. He stressed expanding traditional trade and investment cooperation while also venturing into emerging fields like AI, 5G, clean energy, and the digital economy.
Xi reiterated the need to defend the multilateral trading system and work together to foster a fairer, more open, and inclusive global economic framework.
He called for enhanced cultural exchanges and deeper promotion of the China-Vietnam friendship.
Xi emphasized the importance of celebrating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties and the Year of People-to-People Exchanges to highlight stories of friendship and cooperation.
He advocated for more grassroots-level projects that directly benefit citizens and strengthen public goodwill.
In response, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh stated that Xi’s visit represents the most significant high-level engagement of the year and holds historic importance for bilateral ties, promising to boost collaboration.
Since Xi’s last visit in 2023, mutual trust and practical cooperation between the two countries have deepened, along with stronger people-to-people bonds, Chinh noted.
Chinh reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to fostering a strategic community with China and expressed support for China’s continued growth and development.
He said Vietnam aspires to learn from China’s governance experience, self-reliant spirit, and development model.
The Prime Minister expressed a desire to strengthen ties in trade, investment, connectivity, science, and finance to boost economic resilience.
He also hoped for a successful People-to-People Exchange Year, deeper sub-national cooperation, and stronger interpersonal connections.
Lastly, Chinh emphasized the importance of aligning on international and regional matters to maintain strategic focus, protect multilateralism, and uphold the international order.
