Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday called for aligning China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) with Bolivia’s 2025 development plan during a meeting with Bolivian President Luis Arce, held on the sidelines of the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Xi emphasized the strong friendship and brotherly ties between China and Bolivia, noting that their bilateral relationship has witnessed consistent positive momentum in recent years.
Both nations have steadfastly supported each other on core interests and key concerns, with the Belt and Road Initiative bringing tangible benefits to both populations through fruitful collaboration, Xi remarked.
China backs Bolivia’s efforts to independently pursue a development model tailored to its national needs and views the upcoming 40th anniversary of their diplomatic relations as a chance to enhance their traditional friendship, deepen mutual trust, broaden win-win cooperation, and elevate their strategic partnership to new heights, Xi stated.
Xi underlined the importance of fostering stronger interactions among government institutions, legislatures, political parties, and local authorities, promoting exchanges on governance strategies, and expanding cooperation in infrastructure, high-altitude agriculture, green development, and the digital economy.
Xi further proposed that China and Bolivia enhance coordination within multilateral platforms such as the United Nations and BRICS, to support unity, self-improvement, and development among Global South nations. He also affirmed China’s commitment to Latin American integration and readiness to work with Bolivia to strengthen mechanisms like the China-CELAC Forum.
Bolivian President Luis Arce praised the deep and brotherly relationship with China and expressed gratitude for China’s assistance in combating COVID-19 and supporting Bolivia’s social and economic progress.
Arce acknowledged China’s impressive modernization achievements under Xi’s leadership, which offer valuable insights for Bolivia and other countries. He congratulated Xi on the recent opening of the Chancay Port in Peru.
Arce expressed Bolivia’s willingness to commemorate the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations with China next year by further enhancing their strategic partnership and strengthening cooperation in infrastructure connectivity to support Bolivia’s national development and improve its people’s well-being.
Bolivia is prepared to deepen collaboration with China through multilateral frameworks, including BRICS and the China-CELAC Forum, Arce affirmed.
