World Bank rejects India’s unilateral Indus Water Treaty suspension as the President elaborates on the treaty clauses.
World Bank President Ajay Banga has made it clear that the Indus Water Treaty does not contain any provision that allows one party to suspend or pause the agreement on its own.
In an interview, Banga added that changes or suspension of the treaty can only occur if all involved parties agree. He reaffirmed that the World Bank acts as a mediator in the Indus Water Treaty.
Defense analysts have emphasized that Ajay Banga’s comments confirm India cannot unilaterally suspend the treaty. They argued that any such action would violate international law.
Experts further noted that the World Bank’s clear position has revealed India’s questionable intentions regarding the treaty.
India had earlier claimed to suspend the Indus Water Treaty on its own in response to the Pahalgam false flag operation.
