Significant and historic advancements have been achieved in the field of human rights in southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region, as highlighted in a white paper released on Friday.
The document, titled “Human Rights in Xizang in the New Era,” was issued by the State Council Information Office during a press conference held in Lhasa, the regional capital.
The document states that the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Chinese government have taken effective measures to drive economic growth, enhance living standards, ensure public welfare, foster ethnic unity, and safeguard the fundamental rights of all residents in the region.
Since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, human rights protection has been incorporated into the Party Central Committee’s governance framework for Xizang, according to the report.
The CPC has maintained a people-centered approach to human rights, ensuring development-driven protection while promoting whole-process people’s democracy, the document noted.
The Party has reinforced legal safeguards for human rights and has worked to enhance citizens’ political and civil rights alongside economic, social, and cultural rights. This integrated effort aims to achieve balanced development and shared prosperity for all ethnic groups in the region.
Today, Xizang enjoys political stability, ethnic solidarity, economic progress, social harmony, and religious coexistence, according to the white paper.
The region’s ecological environment remains well-preserved, and local residents lead fulfilling lives. This progress marks a significant achievement in advancing human rights on the high-altitude plateau, the document concluded.
