Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi urged G20 nations to collaborate in fostering a fair and inclusive world that promotes shared development.

Speaking at the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Johannesburg, Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized China’s commitment to supporting South Africa’s G20 presidency under the theme “Solidarity, Equality, and Sustainability.” He called for deeper cooperation among G20 members to create a just global order focused on mutual progress.

Wang proposed key goals for G20 cooperation, starting with the need to strengthen unity. He emphasized the importance of seeking common ground while setting aside differences, rejecting division and confrontation, and opposing the formation of exclusive blocs.

He highlighted the responsibility of major economies to lead by example by reforming global economic governance, amplifying the voice of the Global South, and fostering an open global economy. He also called for collective opposition to unilateralism and protectionism while promoting inclusive and balanced globalization.

Wang’s second proposal stressed equality within the G20, advocating for extensive dialogue, shared contributions, and mutual benefits. He encouraged nations to view one another as partners, not competitors, and to see each other’s development as an opportunity rather than a challenge. He also voiced China’s support for South Africa’s initiative to establish an AI task force and host a global AI summit in Africa.

His third point focused on advancing G20 cooperation through sustainable development. He emphasized the need for the G20 to keep development as a priority and translate multilateral commitments into tangible actions.

China is committed to supporting key initiatives, including disaster reduction, debt sustainability, energy transition, and critical minerals. Wang highlighted China’s willingness to explore ways to lower financing costs for developing nations and alleviate their debt burdens through shared responsibility and fair burden-sharing principles.

Acknowledging Africa’s growing development momentum, Wang urged the G20 to mobilize greater resources to support Africa’s industrialization, infrastructure growth, and green mineral development. He called for stronger global coordination to accelerate Africa’s modernization.

China, in collaboration with African nations, is advancing ten partnership initiatives for modernization. Wang reaffirmed China’s commitment to working with all stakeholders through G20 cooperation to support Africa’s development and promote shared prosperity.
