Wang Yi says China ready to deepen political trust with South Africa with the objective of elevating cooperation between two countries.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed China’s readiness to collaborate with South Africa to enhance strategic communication and deepen political trust, aiming to elevate bilateral cooperation. Wang emphasized that both China and South Africa, as significant developing countries and key members of the Global South, share mutual trust and support. He described the two nations as friendly partners in development and defenders of international justice.
South African Foreign Minister Ronald Lamola highlighted the strong political trust and rapid economic and trade growth between the two countries, noting that China is now South Africa’s largest trading partner. Lamola reaffirmed South Africa’s respect for China’s sovereignty, supporting China’s stance on Taiwan, Hong Kong, Xinjiang, and Xizang, and reiterated South Africa’s commitment to the one-China policy.
Both ministers praised the achievements of China-South Africa cooperation in various sectors and pledged to strengthen ties in areas such as economy, trade, investment, and green development, aiming to deliver tangible benefits to their people.
Lamola is in Beijing for the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), scheduled for September 4 to 6. Wang highlighted FOCAC’s role over the past 24 years in accelerating Africa’s development, promoting South-South cooperation, and fostering international collaboration with Africa. He further affirmed China’s willingness to work with African countries, including South Africa, to ensure the summit’s success and contribute to Africa’s development and revitalization.
