Namibian President Nangolo Mbumba met with Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chinese Foreign Minister, in Swakopmund on Monday. Both leaders committed to strengthening bilateral cooperation.
Wang highlighted that despite the geographical distance, the bond between China and Africa remains steadfast.
He emphasized that the China-Africa partnership has endured global changes and continues to present new opportunities. Wang reaffirmed that China prioritizes Africa in its diplomacy and remains a reliable partner.
For 35 consecutive years, Chinese foreign ministers have made Africa their first overseas destination each year. Wang stated that this tradition reflects China’s dedication to fostering stronger China-Africa ties. He underscored that their collaboration represents the rise of the Global South and the increasing influence of justice.
Wang noted Namibia’s key role as a member of the African community and a comprehensive strategic cooperation partner of China.
At last year’s Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit in Beijing, Chinese President Xi Jinping introduced 10 partnership action plans to enhance modernization and announced the elevation of China-Africa ties to an “all-weather community with a shared future for the new era.”
Wang expressed China’s readiness to collaborate with Namibia in implementing these action plans to support Namibia’s modernization efforts.
Acknowledging Namibia’s unique resources and development potential, Wang praised the South West Africa People’s Organization (SWAPO) Party’s people-centered governance and commitment to a development path tailored to national conditions. He expressed China’s willingness to exchange governance experiences and deepen cooperation in various sectors.
President Mbumba reaffirmed Namibia’s enduring friendship and cooperation with China, built on mutual respect and support.
Mbumba reiterated Namibia’s commitment to the one-China principle, including support for China’s territorial integrity regarding Taiwan. He commended China’s achievements under Xi Jinping’s leadership and expressed interest in enhancing interparty exchanges and sharing governance strategies.
Mbumba recalled his meeting with Xi at the FOCAC Summit, where they agreed to strengthen bilateral relations. He voiced Namibia’s support for the Beijing Declaration and the FOCAC Action Plan and expressed interest in expanding cooperation in areas like infrastructure, digital economy, energy, agriculture, and education to improve citizens’ welfare.
Namibia endorsed Xi’s three global initiatives—the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative—and looks forward to continued collaboration with China in international and regional matters to safeguard shared interests.
On the same day, Wang also met with Namibia’s President-elect, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.
