Chinese FM Wang Yi meets Japan-China friendship groups to strengthen bilateral ties amid increasing global challenges.
Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and head of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission, met with representatives from seven Japan-China friendship groups on Sunday. He underscored the importance of strengthening bilateral ties, particularly in light of increasing global instability.
Highlighting China’s commitment as a major global power, Wang reaffirmed the country’s resolve to collaborate with other nations to maintain peace and security in Asia while fostering human development and progress.
Wang emphasized that as neighboring countries and leading global economies, China and Japan must reassess the value of their relationship. He stressed the need to reinforce their longstanding friendship, expand mutually beneficial cooperation, and deepen people-to-people exchanges to ensure stable and healthy bilateral relations.
Recognizing the efforts of the seven friendship groups in strengthening ties between the two nations, Wang encouraged them to continue their work in promoting peace and friendship, contributing to the well-being of both countries.
He outlined three key areas for further collaboration: preserving the political foundation of bilateral ties, expanding dialogue and exchanges across multiple sectors, and fostering a new generation of leaders dedicated to China-Japan friendship.
Wang also called for strict adherence to the China-Japan Joint Statement, urging careful handling of historical issues and the Taiwan question to prevent any distortions or actions that could weaken the foundation of diplomatic relations.
Additionally, he stressed the importance of engaging young people in fostering China-Japan friendship to ensure the continuity of bilateral cooperation.
Among those attending the meeting were Hiroshi Moriyama, chairman of the Japan-China Friendship Parliamentarians’ Union and secretary-general of Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party, along with Yohei Kono, president of the Japanese Association for the Promotion of International Trade, and other key leaders of friendship organizations.
The Japanese representatives reaffirmed the vital role of China-Japan friendship for both nations and their people. They pledged to continue supporting local and youth exchanges to further strengthen bilateral relations.
