UNDP Pakistan and China collaborate on climate resilience project as Pakistan remains one of the most vulnerable countries to effects of climate change.
In a major effort to tackle the escalating risks posed by climate change, UNDP Pakistan and the Government of China introduced the ‘Tailored Intelligence for Actionable Early Warning Systems’ (TIAEWS) project on March 5. This initiative is designed to enhance the resilience of at-risk communities in Pakistan, particularly in disaster-prone areas like Gilgit-Baltistan, which frequently experiences glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs).
Funded by the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund (GDF) and backed by the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), the TIAEWS project focuses on four core objectives: improving early warning systems to anticipate climate-related disasters, integrating real-time data management for efficient disaster monitoring, strengthening community awareness and preparedness, and enhancing governance and coordination to ensure a swift, unified response to emergencies.
As one of the most climate-vulnerable countries, Pakistan faces growing threats from natural disasters, including floods, GLOFs, and extreme weather conditions. The TIAEWS initiative aims to significantly enhance disaster readiness, protect millions of lives, and build sustainable resilience within high-risk communities.
By utilizing cutting-edge technology and fostering international cooperation, this project represents a crucial step toward a more secure and sustainable future for Pakistan.
