Turkish President Erdogan receives guard of honor at PM house as he is on a two day official visit to Pakistan.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan received a ceremonial reception at the Prime Minister’s House as he arrived in Pakistan for an official visit on Thursday.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended a warm welcome to President Erdogan and First Lady Emine Erdogan, who are on a two-day visit. The ceremony included a guard of honour and the playing of the national anthems of both countries. PM Shehbaz introduced the Turkish president to members of his federal cabinet, while he also met with Erdogan’s delegation.
Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir later met President Erdogan and conveyed his greetings. The Turkish leader was honoured with an aerial salute by F-16 fighter jets. Erdogan, accompanied by First Lady Emine Erdogan and a delegation of business leaders and investors, arrived at Noor Khan Airbase late at night. He was personally received by President Asif Ali Zardari and PM Shehbaz, and a 21-gun salute was given in his honour.
The visit focuses on enhancing diplomatic and economic cooperation between Pakistan and Türkiye. A key highlight is the seventh session of the Pakistan-Turkiye High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council (HLSCC), which President Erdogan will co-chair with PM Shehbaz. Further, the session will conclude with a joint declaration and the signing of several agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). A joint press conference will follow.
President Erdogan is scheduled to hold separate meetings with PM Shehbaz and President Zardari. Additionally, he will address the Pakistan-Turkiye Business and Investment Forum, attended by top investors, business leaders, and representatives from both nations.
Moreover, the HLSCC is the highest-level decision-making body between Pakistan and Türkiye, providing strategic guidance on bilateral relations. It oversees multiple committees focused on trade, banking, finance, defence, tourism, energy, technology, education, and other sectors. Six HLSCC meetings have been held to date, with the last one taking place in Islamabad in February 2020.
Pakistan and Türkiye share a historic and fraternal relationship. President Erdogan’s visit and the seventh HLSCC meeting are expected to further strengthen these ties and expand multidimensional cooperation between the two countries.
