The Belt and Road Regional Cooperation Forum commenced in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, on August 28. The Daily CPEC participated in the Belt and Road Regional Cooperation Forum Chengdu, China as the only media company in panel discussion from Pakistan.
The ceremony saw the participation of high-profile representatives from China and various foreign nations. Among the key speakers were Wang Fei, Vice Chairman of the Sichuan Provincial People’s Congress, Zhang Runkuo, Deputy Director of the Proposal Review Committee of the 14th CPPCC National Committee, and Wang Yingjie, Executive Vice President of the Silk Road Foundation. They emphasized the Belt and Road Initiative’s crucial role in enhancing international cooperation and advancing infrastructure development.
The Daily CPEC at the Belt and Road Regional Cooperation Forum
The Daily CPEC participated in the Belt and Road Regional Cooperation Forum as the only media company from Pakistan in panel discussion. The panel discussion highlighted the role of the BRI and CPEC in regional connectivity and economic development.
Mr, Ebraheem Faisal Malik, the Chief Digital Officer of the Daily CPEC took part in panel discussion titled “My Belt and Road stories” where he highlighted the the The Daily CPEC’s contribution in disseminating valuable knowledge on CPEC and BRI.
He mentioned CPEC’s transformative role in Pakistan’s economy and infrastructure. Further, he underlined the engagement of the Daily CPEC with local communities affected by CPEC projects where they offered valuable insights into both the opportunities and challenges they encounter. Mr. Faisal shed light on the interviews with residents, business owners and officials that have helped unveil diverse perspectives on economic benefits, environmental concerns and cultural exchanges.
He evaluated that employment opportunities, technology transfer and enhanced regional connectivity through rails, roads and infrastructure. that has been a result of China Pakistan Economic Corridor. CPEC has been key to unlocking potential in Pakistan and has spurred economic growth by attracting foreign investment especially from the Middle East.
Mr. Faisal particularly mentioned a recent initiative launched in Pakistan to empower women by providing vocational training. He also cited an example of a woman who had previously struggled to find a stable employment took part in one of the programs. Through the skills she earned she was able to secure a job with one of the CPEC projects. Her success story became an inspiration for other women in her area.
While answering a question on BRI reporting experience and its influence on personal understanding of China-Pakistan relations, Mr Faisal noted that the CPEC has not only strengthened economic ties but has also solidified the strategic partnership between China and Pakistan, transforming their relationship into a multifaceted partnership.
His discussion mentioned that since the inception of CPEC in 2013, China has committed over $60 billion to various projects in Pakistan, spanning infrastructure, energy, and more. This investment has helped alleviate Pakistan’s chronic energy shortages, with several coal, wind, and solar power plants now operational under CPEC. Additionally, the development of Gwadar Port, a key element of CPEC, has significantly boosted Pakistan’s maritime trade capabilities.
“As the leading platform for the Belt and Road Initiative and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, The Daily CPEC seeks to collaborate with People’s Daily to combat misinformation and disinformation. This partnership reflects not only economic cooperation but also shared strategic interests, as both nations work to strengthen their regional positions.” Mr Faisal elaborated.
Media and Business Representatives
Additionally. welcoming speeches were also delivered by media and business representatives from different countries, including Dilbert Reyes Rodriguez, director of the Granma newspaper in Cuba, and Olga Lisogor, deputy editor-in-chief of Rossiya Segodnya in Russia. The speeches highlighted China’s ongoing efforts to strengthen ties and partnerships through the global initiative.
The event also featured the release of the “Belt and Road Construction Cases 2024” book, presented by Wang Xiaodong, director of the Economic and Social News Department of People’s Daily.
Lastly, the forum served as a significant platform for discussing the future prospects and development of the initiative, which aims to enhance global infrastructure connectivity and economic cooperation.
