As 2021 draws towards a close, China Gezhouba Group of Companies (CGGC)’s team on Wednesday achieved one more milestone of completing another headrace tunnel sections breakthrough with each other at Suki Kinari Hydropower Project (SKHP) Mansehra, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
CGGC took less than a year to complete the 2.6-kilometer section of headrace tunnel including the excavation process and support work. Currently, the concrete lining is in the progress between breakthrough sections of headrace tunnels with just two sections remaining to complete the 23.2 kilometers long stretch, according to the latest progress update.
Despite the coronavirus pandemic and work in high mountainous terrain, CGGC has successfully achieved its different targets during 2021.
Earlier this month, CGGC had completed the overall concreting of the four units of underground powerhouses of 884MW SKHP. CGGC is executing the SKHP, which is one of the biggest private sector projects under the framework of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
The project is located above Kunhar River with an elevation of between 1,300meters and 2,400 meters with a total installed capacity of SKHP is around 884 MW with the supply of four sets of impulse turbines.
SKHP is a foreign direct investment project with a total investment of $1.96 billion with 6-year construction period. CGGC is the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor, with an amount of $1.314 billion.
