Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez is scheduled to visit China from April 10 to 11, following an invitation from Chinese Premier Li Qiang, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry confirmed on Tuesday.
This will be Sanchez’s third trip to China in the past three years. According to spokesperson Lin Jian at a routine press briefing, Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to meet with Sanchez, while Premier Li Qiang will also engage in official discussions with him.
Highlighting Spain’s role, Lin emphasized that it remains a key partner for China within the European Union. He noted that the bilateral relationship is grounded in mutual respect, trust, and shared interests, placing China-Spain ties at the forefront of China’s relations with EU nations.
As 2025 marks the 20th anniversary of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Spain, Lin expressed hope that this visit will serve as a catalyst to enhance strategic trust, promote cooperation and openness, and jointly address global issues, further strengthening bilateral ties.
