Sindh CM discusses CPEC with Chinese Envoy, Yang Yundong while highlighting President Zardari’s recent visit to China.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah met separately with Chinese Consul General Yang Yundong and Iraqi Consul General Dr. Mehr Mujahid Jejan at the Chief Minister House on Wednesday.
According to officials, the discussions focused on investment, development projects, and diplomatic collaboration to strengthen Sindh’s relations with both countries.
During his conversation with the Chinese consul general, the chief minister stressed the significance of ongoing and upcoming projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He highlighted that President Asif Ali Zardari’s recent engagement with the Chinese president had unlocked fresh opportunities for development.
Shah revealed that Karachi would soon witness the launch of several water projects in partnership with China, along with an expansion of solar energy initiatives.
The Chinese diplomat reaffirmed China’s commitment to investing in Sindh, emphasizing the keen interest of Chinese investors in various sectors. They also discussed progress in modern agricultural technology and research.
The chief minister noted that Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari placed great emphasis on fostering strong ties with China, recalling his previous visits as foreign minister as instrumental in strengthening bilateral cooperation.
In his separate meeting with the Iraqi consul general, Shah welcomed Dr. Jejan to Karachi and congratulated him on his new role. He described the reopening of the Iraqi consulate in Karachi after two decades as a pivotal move in enhancing diplomatic and cultural relations between the two nations.
Dr. Jejan announced the resumption of visa and consular services, which would greatly facilitate religious pilgrims from Sindh. The chief minister assured the Iraqi diplomat of the provincial government’s full support in ensuring the smooth operation of the consulate.
Additionally, the Iraqi consul general shared plans for direct flights between Karachi and Najaf, which would provide convenience for religious travelers.
