Shenzhou-20 crew joins space station as the Shenzhou-19 crew welcomed them onboard.
The three astronauts aboard China’s Shenzhou-20 spaceship successfully entered the country’s space station and met with a crew of three astronauts already on board in the early hours of Friday. This marked the beginning of a new round of in-orbit crew handover.
At 1:17 a.m. (Beijing Time), the Shenzhou-19 crew opened the hatch and welcomed their new counterparts, as reported by the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA).
The six astronauts then posed for a group photo, marking the sixth such space gathering in China’s aerospace history.
The crews will live and work together for approximately five days, during which they will complete planned tasks and the handover process, according to the CMSA.
The Shenzhou-19 crew is scheduled to return to the Dongfeng landing site in Inner Mongolia on April 29.
