The 2025 SCO Forum on Poverty Reduction and Sustainable Development opens on Tuesday in Xi’an, located in northwest China’s Shaanxi Province.
Shen Yueyue, vice chairperson of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and chairperson of the SCO’s Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation Commission, read out a congratulatory letter from Chinese President Xi Jinping and delivered a keynote speech.
The letter highlighted President Xi’s strong commitment to poverty eradication and sustainable development, emphasizing his hopes for deeper exchanges and mutual learning among SCO member states to build a community with a shared future, Shen noted.
She further explained that poverty reduction and sustainable growth reflect the common goals of SCO countries to improve people’s livelihoods and promote development, playing a vital role in accelerating the UN’s 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and fostering a community with a shared future for all humanity.
Shen stressed the importance of upholding fairness and justice, improving the poverty reduction environment, enhancing mutual learning for win-win cooperation, strengthening technological support, and increasing the effectiveness of poverty alleviation efforts.
She urged SCO countries to build consensus, combine their strengths, work together towards modernization, advance cooperation in poverty reduction and sustainable development, and collectively contribute to achieving common prosperity.
