For this initiative, Rs 500 million has been allocated based on a recommendation from the Punjab Inspector General of Police, who also instructed additional security measures for Chinese workers involved in both CPEC and non-CPEC projects.
This decision follows a recent suicide bombing in Karachi that targeted a convoy of Chinese nationals near Jinnah Airport, resulting in at least three deaths and ten injuries. Initial investigations indicated that the attacker had been waiting near the airport to ambush the convoy, driving an explosive-laden vehicle into one of the cars, causing extensive damage to nearby vehicles. Rescue teams arrived swiftly, securing one of the damaged foreign vehicles at the scene.
Authorities are gathering information on the vehicles involved, including number plates and chassis details, to further investigate. Despite the powerful blast, which was audible from miles away, airport operations remained unaffected, with no damage to the facility.
The Chinese Embassy in Islamabad condemned the attack, confirming the deaths of two Chinese nationals and reporting one injury among the Chinese passengers.
