President Xi Jinping of China extended his congratulations to Friedrich Merz on being elected as the Chancellor of Germany.
Xi emphasized the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Germany, noting that the two nations have shared a relationship built on mutual respect, trust, and equality since establishing diplomatic ties 53 years ago.
He highlighted the mutual benefits of the relationship, saying both countries have supported each other’s growth and achieved steady bilateral progress through high-level collaboration.
Xi pointed out that the world is undergoing complex changes and facing growing challenges such as unilateralism and protectionism.
Despite global challenges, Xi stressed that peace, development, cooperation, and mutual success remain the enduring path forward and a prevailing global trend.
He urged China and Germany, two of the world’s largest economies, to uphold fairness, expand cooperation and mutual learning, and jointly contribute to a fair multipolar world and inclusive globalization.
Xi reaffirmed his commitment to advancing China-Germany relations and expressed his willingness to work with Merz to enhance political trust, deepen cooperation, and strengthen China-EU relations to support global peace and development.
On the same day, Chinese Premier Li Qiang also congratulated Merz on his election as Chancellor.
Li noted the strong strategic partnership between China and Germany and stated that their practical cooperation has achieved significant outcomes with great future potential.
He emphasized that mutual respect, cooperation, and shared benefits are foundational principles of the relationship, which both countries must preserve and promote.
Premier Li expressed his desire to build a productive working relationship with Merz, deepen mutual understanding, broaden cooperation, and steer both China-Germany and China-EU ties in a constructive direction.
