Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari in Beijing on Wednesday for bilateral discussions.
Xi emphasized the strong and enduring friendship between China and Pakistan, highlighting their status as all-weather strategic partners. He noted that both nations have maintained firm political support for each other, engaged in high-level exchanges, and advanced cooperation on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), setting an example for international relations.
China is committed to working alongside Pakistan to accelerate modernization efforts, foster a closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future, and contribute to regional stability and prosperity. Xi reaffirmed China’s strategic approach to Pakistan, emphasizing unwavering support for Pakistan’s sovereignty, independence, and counterterrorism efforts while encouraging Pakistan to follow its own development path.
He urged both countries to align their development strategies, enhance governance exchanges, and strengthen cooperation at all levels to solidify political ties. Xi welcomed Pakistan as an early beneficiary of China’s deepening reforms and high-standard opening-up, pledging to advance practical collaboration, upgrade CPEC, and support Pakistan’s economic growth.
Xi also stressed the importance of security for Chinese personnel and projects in Pakistan and called for stronger bilateral and multilateral counterterrorism measures. He highlighted the upcoming 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2026 as an opportunity to deepen cultural, educational, and media exchanges to strengthen the long-standing friendship.
China appreciates Pakistan’s active support for its global initiatives and aims to collaborate on upholding peaceful coexistence, countering unilateralism, and safeguarding the interests of developing nations.
Zardari assured that Pakistan will always stand by China, regardless of global changes. He expressed gratitude for China’s generous support in Pakistan’s economic and social development and voiced Pakistan’s eagerness to learn from China’s success in industrialization and modernization while promoting high-quality CPEC development.
Acknowledging Xi’s leadership, Zardari commended China’s increasing global influence and its contributions to world peace and stability. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism, free trade, and protecting the shared interests of both nations and other developing countries.
Following their talks, Xi and Zardari witnessed the signing of multiple bilateral agreements covering CPEC, trade, science and technology, and media cooperation.
