President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to its territorial integrity and sovereignty, stressing that the country would respond appropriately to any act of aggression.
This determination was conveyed during a meeting between the two leaders at the President House in Islamabad on Thursday.
The discussions focused on the prevailing security situation, especially regarding rising tensions with India following the Pahalgam attack.
The two leaders expressed serious concerns over India’s aggressive stance and provocative remarks, which they viewed as a threat to regional peace and stability.
The meeting emphasized that the Pakistani people stand united, fully supporting their Armed Forces, who are prepared to respond to any potential threat or aggression. They also reviewed Pakistan’s stance in reaction to India’s belligerence and the possibility of military confrontation.
The meeting also expressed disappointment over the Indian leadership’s accusations regarding the Pahalgam attack, especially given the lack of any investigative efforts. They pointed out that Pakistan has long been a victim of terrorism, enduring significant human and economic losses for more than twenty years.
The leaders called for the international community to take note of India’s role in financing, training, and sending militants to Pakistan to carry out terrorist activities.
President Asif Ali Zardari praised the government’s response to India’s baseless claims and the responsible handling of the situation, reaffirming that Pakistan would do whatever is necessary to protect its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national interests.
The meeting also underscored the urgent need to implement United Nations Security Council resolutions granting the Kashmiri people their right to self-determination, which they believed would contribute to long-term peace and stability in the region.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inquired about President Zardari’s health following his recovery from COVID-19.
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar also participated in the meeting.
