China strongly supports the development of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Community, as well as ASEAN’s central role in regional cooperation and its influence in international affairs, Chinese Premier Li Qiang stated in Vientiane on Wednesday.
He emphasized that China is ready for comprehensive discussions with all parties on significant regional cooperation issues, aiming to strengthen the region’s role as a driving force for global development.
Li made these comments in a written statement upon arriving at Vientiane’s Wattay International Airport in the evening. He is attending East Asia cooperation leaders’ meetings and making an official visit to Laos at the invitation of Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, the current ASEAN chair.
Li highlighted that since the start of the year, Laos has taken an active leadership role as the ASEAN chair, focusing on practical cooperation, fostering consensus, and achieving significant progress in ASEAN Community building and East Asia cooperation.
He further noted that in recent years, China and Laos, under the strategic direction of their leaders, have deepened their comprehensive strategic partnership, ushering in a new era of building a community with a shared future.
China is currently undergoing deep reforms and pursuing its Second Centenary Goal of becoming a great modern socialist nation, while Laos is on its own path of reforms and opening up to advance its socialist agenda, Li added.
He reaffirmed China’s readiness to collaborate with Laos on aligning their development strategies, strengthening unity, and advancing the China-Laos community with a shared future for the benefit of both nations.
During his visit, Li will participate in the 27th China-ASEAN Summit, the 27th ASEAN Plus Three Summit, and the 19th East Asia Summit from October 9 to 12.
